FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: steel ingot contains body of tetrahedral shape, head and bottom parts, reiterating shape of the body and allowing variable sizes of cross-sections. Sizes of top butt of head part and bottom butt of bottom part are implemented so that at reversible rolling of ingot on blooming top butt of head part and low butt of bottom part of ingot are starting deformation after achievement of indicator value of deformation site shape I/hav≥0.4. Rate of longitudinal plastic yielding of metal in axial art of breakdown bar approximates to metal flow velocity in near-contact layers, that provides reduction of clipping ensured by reduction of "pulling-down" and discard by pinholes.
EFFECT: increasing of yield ensured by losses reduction of metal with head and bottom butt in the form of additional butt because of breaks of sinterskin of head ingot butt, in the form of seam on rolling.
