FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method includes layered charge of scrap, heating of each layer of scrap by means of two-stage burning of carbon-bearing fuel. Each layer of scrap is heated by burning of carbon-bearing fuel with escape of volatile matters 0.5-1.5% and capacity of reaction of carbon 0.5-1.0 cm3/g·s in amount 15-30 kg/t of heated layer of scrap and simultaneously in a stream of oxygen it is evenly fed carbon-bearing fuel with escape of volatile matters 10-17% and capacity of reaction of carbon 0.1-0.5 cm3/g·s in amount 30-40 kg/t of heated layer of scrap.
EFFECT: effectiveness increase of usage of carbon-bearing fuel and reduction of its consumption.
