FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to electrometallurgy, particularly to electric furnaces - electric calcinators for tempering bulk carbon materials, for example, anthracite, by means of running electrical current through them. The furnace consists of a cylinder stack, of lining of a case, of a throttle located in an upper part of the furnace stack and forming a through internal opening, of an upper and lower electrodes and of loading and unloading facilities; also the throttle is built-in into lining of the case so, that it divides it into an upper and lower parts; the throttle is made in form of an upper, middle and lower belts conjugated with horizontal surfaces; notably, horizontal surface of the lower belt facing the lower electrode rests on the lower part of case lining, while the horizontal surface of the upper belt facing the upper electrode adjoins the upper part of lining; also part of throttle belts projects beyond vertical internal surface of lining and in vertical cross section has a shape of trapeziums, bases of which facing central axis of the furnace, form through opening of height equal to 0.08-0.1 of furnace stack height.
EFFECT: new design of furnace facilitates uniform distribution of power lines of current along vertical axis of furnace thus increasing furnace life and decreasing specific consumption of electric power, also design ensures uniform heating of tempered carbon material and its upgraded quality.
