FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: device comprises vertical lined casing and top and bottom electrodes that are mounted coaxially to the casing. The vertical lined casing is made of a dumbbell-like member with cross-section varying along the vertical. The narrow part of the casing is interposed between the electrodes, and the wide parts of the casing is positioned at a level of the electrodes. The diameter of the top electrode is 0.3-0.6 of the diameter of the narrow part of the casing. The diameter of the narrow part of the casing is 0.3-0.7 of the distance between the electrodes. The area of the cross-section of the narrow part of the casing is 0.3-1.0 of the area of the cross-section of the relief opening. The lining of the casing is made of the refractory layer and outer heat-insulating layer. In the zone of the wide part of the casing the refractory layer is made of a nonconducting material, and in the zone of the narrow part of the casing it is made of a conducting material.
EFFECT: enhanced quality of calcining .
