FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: radar system employs a passive repeater, connected by a radar channel to a transceiving antenna and an analysed object or a calibration reflector, with low sidelobe of bistatic scattering indicatrix, dimensions of which provide for the required resolution power of the system in vertical and horizontal planes. According to the invention, in the method of measuring the scattering cross-section of objects, the signal emitted by the transceiving antenna is mirror re-reflected in the direction of the analysed object, and orthogonally polarised components of the signal scattered by the analysed object is re-reflected using the same repeater in the direction of the transceiving antenna. The said components are received, and their power is measured and compared with power of signals with corresponding polarisation, reflected from calibration reflectors with known scattering cross-section.
EFFECT: wider functional capabilities of measuring using standard polygon type standard radar systems due to measurement of integral and differential scattering cross-section of objects.
