FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: ignition method of solid fuel charge includes combustion of igniter composition, movement of its combustion products along charge surface, its heating and ignition. During ignition of solid fuel charge there increased is gas supply from some part of igniter composition during the time period not exceeding the time period of ignition of the whole charge burning surface, and gas supply from igniter composition is decreased by the time maximum pressure is reached in combustion chamber. In order to implement the above method, there proposed is solid fuel rocket engine containing combustion chamber, propellant charge, electric igniter and igniter in annular precombustion chamber with flow ports. An additional charge made in the form of channel cartridges and tablets made from solid rocket fuel is arranged in the precombustion chamber symmetrically relative to igniter. Channel cartridges are arranged directly near igniter on its both sides, and tablets made from solid rocket fuel are placed in-series after them. Tablets made from inert polymeric material are installed in precombustion chamber free volume not occupied with igniter and additional charge. Flow ports of precombustion chamber are offset to engine axis and directed to the charge edge.
EFFECT: improving ignition reliability of charges made from slow-burning fuels, and namely charges of cruise engines at negative temperatures, and decreasing engine weight.
