FIELD: metallurgy industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to method and device for stopping metal strip unwound in the form of a roll from the unwinding device and wound again on the winding device by means of the brake operating on eddy currents and having rotating magnetic system. Method involves influence of brake on metal strip by means of induced opposing torque acting on support; at that, support is made in the form of counter-support or counter-roller from electric and magnetic non-conducting material and non-contact brake influence is performed on one side of metal strip. In the device the support is made in the form of counter-support or counter-roller from electric and magnetic non-conducting material, and brake is installed with no contact relative to metal strip moved from the unwinding device to the winding device.
EFFECT: absence of strip surface damage and influence of effective brake power on strip is provided.
