FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to rocketry and can be used in development and updating of multi-chamber sustainers (MCS). Proposed multi-chamber sustainer comprises barrel-like jet nozzle and extending device. Aforesaid build-up jet nozzle is made up of stationary bottom shield with jet orifices and bottom nozzle. The latter, or its end part, in the case of build-up bottom nozzle, is coupled with extending device to allow bottom nozzle or its end part to move from transport position, whereat bottom nozzle edge does not extend beyond nozzle edge, into working position whereat bottom nozzle edge is located beyond nozzle edge. Bottom nozzle inner surface expands from bottom shield to bottom nozzle edge within the limits of multi-stage compartment crosswise size. Bottom nozzle inner surface can be not axisymmetric, and, in sections perpendicular to sustainer axis, it can features shape made up of two circular arcs enveloping the nozzles and ovals or ellipsoids, smoothly conjugated with the former. Bottom nozzle edge can be not straight but have wavy profile with maximum length of generatrix at the most distant points from sustainer axis and minimum length of generatrix between nozzles. Bottom shield center can have axisymmetric ledge narrowing towards end, or that featuring hypocycloids or hypotrochoids shape. Aforesaid ledge or its part can extend from transport into working position.
EFFECT: increased specific thrust pulse in outer vacuum conditions and thrust vector control at preset angle of chambers swinging.
