FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of determining anisotropy of surface physical and mechanical, mainly frictional, properties of material involves moving an indenter on the surface of the material, measuring components of the full resistant force vector and determining anisotropy from the ratio of the said components. The said components are measured at the same time when the indenter passes on a fresh trace and at the same mutual position of anisotropy axes of surfaces in contact. The indenter is moved on a linear path, approximated by a set of linear sections with given degree of approximation. When the indenter moves on each of the sections, a statistically significant number of measurements of the component of the full resistant force vector are made, and anisotropy in the given section of the path is determined from the ratio of their mean values, and the overall information on all sections of the part is used to determine changes in frictional force parametres and anisotropy of surface physical and mechanical properties.

EFFECT: increased accuracy and reliability of testing anisotropic material.
