SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a communication system for transmitting data packets. A device is proposed for generating error detection bits in a communication system, which transmits data with duration of 1 time interval, duration of 2 time intervals or duration of 4 time intervals, over a data channel. The device has a unit of error detection bits for generating error detection bits for control information using an initial value which corresponds to duration of the control information, from the number of first, second and third initial values, for attaching error detection bits to the control information and outputting control information with attached error detection bits. The first initial value corresponds to duration of 1 time interval, the second initial value corresponds to duration of 2 time intervals and is equal to the first initial value, and the third initial value corresponds to duration of 4 time intervals and is different from the second initial value. The device also has a transmitting unit for transmitting control data over the control channel, where the said data include control information and error detection bits.

EFFECT: efficient evaluation of duration the frame of control information, transmitted over a control channel by data packets, through detection of the blind time interval in a communication system.
