FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves formation of moulded particles containing at least 90 wt % boehmite excluding water; thermal treatment of the said moulded particles at controlled temperature to convert the said boehmite of the said moulded particles to gamma-aluminium oxide; maintaining the said controlled temperature in a calcination temperature interval from approximately 454°C (850°F) to 510°C (950°F), so as to convert the said boehmite to a crystalline intermediate phase of aluminium oxide with formation of thermally treated moulded particles, containing less than 5 wt % boehmite in terms of total mass of the said thermally treated moulded particles and where less than 5 wt % of the said aluminium oxide of the said thermally treated moulded particles are a crystalline intermediate phase of aluminium oxide different from gamma-aluminium oxide and; combining a hydrogenising catalyst component with the said thermally treated moulded particles with formation of impregnated thermally treated moulded particles; and thermal treatment of the said impregnated thermally treated moulded particles at temperature ranging from 471°C (880°F) to 532°C (990°F) with formation of the said catalyst composition. The invention also relates to a catalyst composition obtained using the said method and a desulphurisation method using the said catalyst composition.
EFFECT: method is presented for preparing a highly active catalyst which is suitable for use in desulphurisation of an initial middle distillate such as diesel fuel, which has high concentration of sulphur, with obtaining of a middle distillate with ultralow sulphur content.
