SUBSTANCE: device provides for correcting picture skew and has a coordinate converter for correcting position of an image of single-pixel units by converting coordinates of image data, a gradation image data converter, a unit for forming an image on an element carrying the image based on image data corrected after converting coordinates and gradation values, a controller for controlling the image formation unit for formation of a test toner image which includes an intervening gradation pixel with exposure value from 0% to less than 100%, a detector for determining the light reflection characteristic of the test toner image and a regulator for regulating the gradation value converter in accordance with the result of the detector such that, density of the image formed by the intervening gradation pixel is equal to the density of the image formed at 100% exposure.

EFFECT: overcoming density variation in an image with fine details arising during electrical correction of picture skew.
