SUBSTANCE: invention relates to correction control for correcting image characteristics formed by the image forming apparatus. Claimed group of inventions includes an image forming apparatus and a method for controlling an image forming apparatus. Image forming apparatus includes a correction unit configured to correct the image data based on the correction condition, an image forming unit, configured to form an image based on the corrected image data, an image carrying element, configured to carry an image formed by the image forming unit, a transfer unit, configured to carry an image on the image carrying element onto a sheet, a measuring unit, configured to measure a measurement image on the image carrying element, a converting unit, configured to convert the measurement result of the measurement image measured by the measurement unit based on the conversion condition, a first generation unit, configured to generate a correction condition based on the measurement result converted by the converting unit, an acquisition unit, configured to control the image forming unit to form a test image based on the test image data, control the measuring unit for measuring the test image on the image carrying element and obtain the measurement result of the test image by the measuring unit, a controller, configured to control the image forming unit to form a test image based on the test image data and to operate a transfer unit for transferring the test image on the image carrying element to the sheet, a receiving unit, configured to receive a user instruction based on the result of the user comparing a sample image and the test image transferred to the sheet and a second generation unit, configured to generate a conversion condition based on the user instruction received by the receiver unit and the measurement result received by the receiving unit.
EFFECT: technical result consists in providing a high accuracy in correcting the image density formed by the image forming apparatus by eliminating errors in the measurement results of the sensor.
