SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication engineering. A system and a method for providing call return tone signals in communication networks are proposed. First, a call return tone signal device is connected into a communication network for storing and playing back a call return tone signal set up by the subscriber. Whether a subscriber is registered for the call return tone signal service can be determined with the help of a defined mode, for example with the help of an intellectual network, through signal interception, through forwarding signals or with the help of a switching device. If it is discovered that the subscriber is registered for the said service, connection is established between initial switching device and the terminal switching device, as well as connection between the switching device and the return call tone signal device.

EFFECT: provision for playback of a built in call return tone signal to a calling subscriber as a replacement for the traditional call return tone signal.
