FIELD: physics; marking.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to counterfeit protection apparatus. The method uses coating material deposited on a section of an object with addition of uniformly distributed chemical elements with concentration n(10-5-10-6) g/g, where n=1-9, which are not present in the chemical composition of the coating material. The background X-ray spectrum of the coating material is measured and the range of X-ray energy with minimum background level is determined. Depending on the required degree of protection of the object, the amount of chemical elements added is selected, the energy of X-ray fluorescence lines of which lie in the region of the spectrum with minimum background level and their concentrations are given. The set of the amount of added chemical elements and their concentration is the chemical passport for authenticating the object.
EFFECT: reduced cost of making protective marks with high degree of counterfeit protection.
