FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to environmental protection, and more specifically to methods of processing (decontaminating) spent radioactive ion-exchange resins (IER) and industrial liquid toxic wastes (LTW) which contain environmentally hazardous substances, particularly toxic ethyleneglycol. Spent radioactive ion-exchange resins at the decontamination stage are subjected to thermal treatment at 101-150°C while moving in a solution of hydrophilic high-temperature organic coolant in form of ethyleneglycol or used cooling and hydraulic liquids based on ethyleneglycol with addition of phthalic anhydride with weight ratio of anhydrous components in the solution ranging from 1.0 to 2.3 g of phthalic anhydride per 1.0 g of ethyleneglycol.
EFFECT: decontamination of radioactive ion-exchange resins, recycling industrial spent solutions of cooling and hydraulic liquids based on toxic ethyleneglycol; reduced energy and financial expenses on carrying out the process; simplification of the technology of decontaminating radioactive ion-exchange resins and liquid toxic wastes; reduced technogenic effect of hazardous substances on the environment.
