SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to devices for authenticating sheet material. An example of a version of the invention provides a system for reading and authenticating sheet material which has a composite image which appears to float above or under the sheet material or both to the naked eye. For this purpose the system includes a first and a second camera for obtaining a first and a second composite image, as well as a computer for calculating the perceived distance between the sheet material and floating image. When reading and authenticating, the composite image appears to float above or under the sheet material or both to the naked eye.
EFFECT: increased protection from forgery, alteration, copying or imitation.
