SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of optical instrumentation and concerns a device for optical reading of documents. The device includes an electronics unit located in the housing, a battery pack, a scanning unit containing an optical sensor, and at least one illumination module. The housing is made with an optically transparent scanning area and is equipped with a touch screen. The scanning area is located on the side of the rear panel of the housing, the scanning unit contains a working camera that expands in the direction of the optically transparent scanning area. The optical sensor is located in the working chamber opposite the optically transparent scanning area. The illumination module is fixed on the upper wall of the working chamber and contains light sources located on opposite sides relative to the vertical plane of symmetry of the working chamber. The electronics unit is located in the lower part of the housing and is designed with the ability to control the backlight module.

EFFECT: invention improves the image quality and makes it possible to read documents with a glossy surface.
