FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: described is a catalyst for producing linear alkylbenzenes (LAB) through liquid-phase alkylation of benzene with long-chain (C8-C14) α-olefins in form of a sulphated metal oxide, where the oxide is aluminium oxide. The catalyst also contains 0.1-5 wt % iron sub-group metal or a mixture of iron sub-group metals, and content of sulphur in the catalyst ranges from 3 to 6% of the mass of aluminiun oxide. Also described is a method of preparing the said catalyst, in which in addition to sulphation of aluminium oxide with 0.5-1 M sulphuric acid, drying at temperature 100-120°C and calcination at temperature 450-480°C, subsequent treatment with aqueous solution of a nitrate of an iron sub-group metal is carried out, as well as repeated drying calcination at the said temperatures.
EFFECT: increased selectivity of liquid-phase alkylation of benzene with alpha-olefins on a vital product - 2-phenyl isomer with maintenance of high output of linear alkylbenzenes.
