FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing an alkylaromatic compound by bringing at least one aromatic compound and at least one acyclic monoolefin with 6-40 carbon atoms per molecule, with molar ratio of the aromatic compound to the monoolefin less than 15:1, into contact with a solid catalyst in alkylation conditions in the presence of a catalyst containing an acidic FAU fine-crystalline molecular sieve, to form an alkylation product containing an aromatic alkyl. Monoalkylated alkylaromatic compound selectivity is at least 92 wt % and the FAU molecular sieve has the largest crystal dimension less than 500 nm.
EFFECT: formation of an alkylation product in which the amount of dialkylbenzene is 40 wt % less than that in the alkylation product obtained using a FAU molecular sieve having the largest crystal dimension of about 1,5 mcm.
