FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vacuum electrothermics and powder metallurgy and is meant for use in electrothermic installations for different purposes, in which highly ionised plasma is used a heater. The proposed cathode assembly of a vacuum electronic plasma furnace is fitted with a moving electromagnetic screen which encircles the cathode and has an independent electrical power supply and at least one thermoheater for the working surface of the cathode, which is axially symmetrical to the cathode and has an independent electrical power supply.
EFFECT: invention enables to considerably prolong operational life of the cathode, control position, length and spatial direction of the plasma column and ensure uniform heating of particles of the initial powder, which improves quality of the final powder or ingot metal.
