FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: iron containing wastes in form of iron chips produced during mechanical treatment of casts out of grey cast iron are mixed with process carbon. When mixture is heated and conditioned in a furnace with protecting atmosphere, iron chips react with process carbon and fine disperse carbon settles on surface and in macro and micro pores in volume of iron containing wastes. Also protecting atmosphere is created due to supply nitrogen into the furnace. Produced soot iron is cooled on the furnace. The invention facilitates efficient usage of cast iron chips as source material not utilised before for production of soot iron.
EFFECT: reduced expenditures for preparing source materials for production of soot iron; also raised contents of carbon at 31,0% and decreased contents of oxygen at 57,1% in soot iron.
