FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention includes an optical telemetry system having a downhole oilfield probe, a single optical fibre, several electrodes, an optical circulator and a bypass optical fibre. An electrooptical modulator has a downhole substrate made from lithium niobate, a waveguide, an optional input/output device, several electrodes, an optical circulator and a bypass optical fibre. The downhole telemetry system has a surface database, a downhole optical telemetric container and a single-fibre optical interface. The downhole optical telemetric container has a waveguide, an optical input/output device, an optical circulator, several electrodes and a bypass optical fibre. The method which uses the device comprises steps on which electrical signals are received and modulated. Modulation involves steps on which light is received from a source through the input fibre, the light is modulated and transmitted through the waveguide and the modulated light is transmitted back through the fibre. The output step involves transmission of modulated light, redirection of the modulated light, reception and detection of the modulated light.

EFFECT: easier connection between different downhole probes crossing the rock mass and a surface data collection unit.
