FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises cooling down of billet front edges and surface in rolling, feeding billet into rollers with or with cutting cooled-down end. It comprises also increasing maximum tolerable angle of grip thanks by subjecting said angle to appropriate mathematical relations for both the process incorporating cutting of front edges and that not incorporating cutting front edges. To increase maximum tolerable angle of grip, prior to feeding into rollers, front edges are subjected to fast heating to temperature, at least equal to surface temperature at, for example in induction or plasma unit built in rolling mill stream, or billet is used with front edges coated with the layer of metal that features lower strain resistance compared with substrate material. Note that maximum tolerable angle of grip is governed by mathematical relation.
EFFECT: maximum tolerable single-pass squeezing with due allowance for cooling down of front edges and billet surface in hot rolling of difficult-to-form metals.
