FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: static and/or dynamic and/or pulsed calibration of a leak detector on all operating ranges is carried out beforehand. The control gas used is a gaseous mixture with hydrogen additives. When determining local leakage, the leak detector is successively moved on the surface of the article. When determining integral leakage, the article is put into an enclosed volume and the leak detector is connected to the valve of the enclosed volume. The leak detector has a battery discharge indicator and a device for compensating for nonlinear response of the detector installed between a voltage divider and a comparator and which is in form of series-connected nonlinear amplifier and a light-emitting diode measuring device which is made from series-connected resistors and series-connected diodes. Between each resistor and the corresponding diode there is a light-emitting diode.
EFFECT: easy, accurate and cheap method of determining local and integral leakage of articles with minimum measurement errors.
