FIELD: testing equipment.

SUBSTANCE: controlled and reference items are filled by a test substance to required pressure, afterwards enclosed into identical closed shells and maintained for a certain period of time. A reference item is a tight mock-up of the controlled item. Test substance is simultaneously a working fluid of items, number of which during control may exceed one. Further they perform simultaneous vacuumising of closed shells to required pressure, at which quasistationary mode is maintained. Vacuumising is stopped, by closing of shell pumping with the reference item, and then shell pumping with the controlled item. By means of a mass spectrometer they first determine background content of test substance from the reference item, and then content of test substance from the controlled item. On the basis of performed measurements they calculate extent of non-tightness of the controlled item.

EFFECT: increased validity of control of tightness of gas filled items.
