FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method of detecting platinum in aqueous solutions through stripping voltammetry involves transferring platinum (IV) from a sample to a solution and voltammetric determination. Platinum accumulates on glass-carbon or polyethylene-impregnate graphite electrodes in a stirred solution in the presence of bismuth ions for 60-120 s with subsequent recording of peaks for selective electrooxidation of bismuth (III) from intermetallic compound Pt_xBi_y potential sweep rate of 60-100 mV/s with electrolysis potential E_e=(-0.3÷-1.1)V on the following backgrounds: (1-0.5) M HNO₃, (1-0.5) M HCl. Concentration of platinum (IV) ions is determined from the value of area under voltage versus current curves at potential ranging from 0.150 V to 0.450 V relative a saturated silver chloride electrode using a certified mixture addition technique.

EFFECT: reduced higher and lower limit of determine contents and wider range of determined platinum content from peaks for selective electrooxidation of bismuth from an intermetallic compound _PtxBiy, obtained after electro-concentration of a binary platinum-bismuth residue on a graphite electrode through stripping voltammetry.
