FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device has at least one radiation detector in a protective metal housing with a window for passing the radiation to the detector covered by a screen which serves to isolate the detector from the surrounding medium. The device is made such that, the screen consists of three tightly joined layers of material. The first and third layers are metallic and the second middle layer is made from shock resistant plastic. The first and third layers are electrically connected to each other and to the protective metal housing. The first layer, which faces the detector, is made from a low-atomic number metal and the third - outer layer - is made from a high-atomic number metal.
EFFECT: increased reliability of detecting radioactive sources with low energy of gamma-radiation and sources without their own ramma-radiation.
