FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: ultrasonic pulses are excited in the inspected sheet glass using radiating ultrasonic transducers, radiation scattered on the microdefects is received and analysed, from which coordinates and size of the defects are determined. The radiating ultrasonic transducers are arranged along one coordinate axis on the surface of the glass. Ultrasonic beams of Lamb waves with pulse modulation are generated successively using each ultrasonic transducer, where the said waves have carrier frequency not less than 1 MHz and pulse duration not longer than 20 mcs. The scattered radiation is received by output ultrasonic transducers which are arranged on a line perpendicular to the axis of the radiating transducers outside the zone of ultrasound pulses along the entire inspected area on the glass surface.
EFFECT: shorter inspection time while maintaining accuracy of checking micro-cracks and other defects in sheet glass of different thickness, possibility of using a simple design for ultrasonic detection of microdefects in sheet glass.
