FIELD: measurement technology, methods of nondestructive testing of polymer composite materials. SUBSTANCE: in compliance with invention elastic vibrations are excited on surface of tested article with the aid of converter. Echoes of these vibrations which passed through thickness of article are received from same surface. Porosity, density and mechanical properties of article are established by parameters of received signal. Elastic vibrations are excited by means of broadband signal of laser acoustooptical converter. Porosity, density and mechanical properties of material are determined by full power of noise component of backscattered acoustic signal. EFFECT: increased accuracy and authenticity of establishment of physical and mechanical characteristics of polymer composite materials. 4 cl, 3 dwg \
