SUBSTANCE: echo sounder includes an electronic computer (1) with an information display device (display) (7), an electroacoustic transducer (5), a transmitter (3) which is an amplifier with stepped power adjustment, a receiver (4), an analogue-to-digital converter (6), a serial interface (2), a device for interfacing the receiver and the transmitter (8) which includes a reception-transmission switch. The gain control input of the receiver (4) provides a resultant gain control function as a product of a step function and a function which compensates for signal attenuation on the distance. Inputs of the transmitter (3) provide power adjustment, as well as input of the shape, type and duration of the emitted signal.
