FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: image relatedness is determined first by identifying units in Web-pages and then by analysing significance of units for the Web-pages, Web-pages for the units and images for the units. Based on the said analysis, the degree with which each image is related to each other image is determined. Image relatedness can also be used to generate image ranking. Vector presentation of images can also be generated based on their relatedness an a clusterisation algorithm can be applied to the vector presentations for identifying clusters of related images. An image of a unit on the Web-page is received from the user as a search request. The cluster of related images which contains the selected image is identified and the user is given indication of the Web-pages which contain images from the identified cluster as a search result.

EFFECT: invention enables to carry out search based on an image which, in computing terms, is not as costly as traditional search methods based on content.
