SUBSTANCE: ranking involves determining the time weight which is an indication of relative importance of an event, which varies with time, for the user. For each search result, an information distribution system calculates the time weight which is based on the closeness in time of an event associated with the search result. The time weight can be used to rank search results once more.
EFFECT: broader functionalities of searching in an information search system owing to ranking search results based on the closeness in time of an event associated with the search results.
