SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway transport and can be sued for repair of rolling stock. Proposed method comprises arranging and locking gondola car at repair position, removing car hatch covers on both sides, their repair at separate repair shop, assembling appropriate number of repaired covers for hatches, arranging them at proper position and fitting in place as required. Rack for hatch covers and self-propelled manipulator with boom are arranged at repair position, said manipulator being capable of travelling and turning vertically and horizontally. Said racks and manipulator are arranged on rail guides. After repair, said covers are laid onto said rack, one above the other at stationary repair position. Every cover is suspended to manipulator boom by flexible link with gripper.

EFFECT: higher quality of repair, mechanised repair and higher efficiency.
