FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method involves band-pass filtering of the composite signal in a frequency band within which the discrete component is sought for, measurement of the autocorrelation function of the filtered composite signal in the frequency band, selection of a fragment of the measured autocorrelation function and comparing the obtained function with a standard function. The distribution function of values of the selected fragment is measured after selection of the fragment of the autocorrelation function. This distribution function is then compared with a standard distribution function calculated for the autocorrelation function of a typical signal. Based on that, presence of several sources of a signal in the input composite signal giving rise to a discrete component in the spectrum of that composite signal is determined.

EFFECT: increased noise immunity.
