FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method and device exploits spatial encoding principle (Gray code) to fond direction to radiation source. Source position is estimated using multi-channel optical receiving system consisting of 2n separate lenses where n is the number of code digits, masks (with "positive" and "negative" images) optically coupled therewith and photo receivers connected in pairs to common load differentially with their outputs connected to appropriate threshold element. Threshold element operation of any of low-order digit channels is considered to be criterion of radiation source availability in direction finder field on vision. To minimise "false" alarms, time gating is used to allow selecting operating signals forming code logical levels from false signals and reducing induction of photo current amplification in input cascades caused by "parasitic" feedback.
EFFECT: higher noise immunity to optical in-phase interference.
