FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: device for destroying information from optical and magneto-optical discs has: a housing, an actuating mechanism, a control unit and system for collecting dust and cuttings. The cylindrical housing consists of a base and a cover, which are mated by boards. The actuating mechanism has an electric motor and a frame on which there are cutter supports with cutters which are kinematically connected to the electric motor through a drive shaft. The drive shaft is fitted with: a spring-loaded diaphragm on which an optical disc is put, a clamping disc, a lock, a lock key, an electric contact ring, a slider and an annular electromagnet. The diaphragm is placed on the clamping disc which is fastened by the lock key. The optical disc is placed between the cutters and the spring-loaded diaphragm. The control unit is designed for controlling the actuating mechanism and includes the following: a secondary power supply, a communication element, an accumulator, a control device, an indicating device, a disc sensor, a microcontroller, a controlled switch, a current sensor, an unauthorised access sensor and a recording device.

EFFECT: increased reliability of destroying information from discs, faster operation and information classification level with protection from unauthorised access to the information and recording of the number of destroyed discs.
