FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparation of catalysts for chemical and petrochemical industry which can be used in dehydrogenating and reforming organic compounds in order to obtain hydrogen, olefins, cycloolefins and aromatic compounds. The invention describes a hydrocarbon dehydrogenation catalyst which contains a bimetallic alloy in which one of the metals is platinum and the other is ruthenium, rhodium or rhenium. The carbon carrier is polyacrylonitrile pyrolysed through exposure to infrared radiation with intensity which corresponds to temperature of 650-1100°C, with the following ratio of components in wt %: platinum and ruthenium or rhodium or rhenium - 1-10; pyrolysed polyacrylonitrile - the rest, where the ratio platinum: ruthenium or rhodium or rhenium equals (8-10):1. A method of dehydrogenating hydrocarbons in the presence of the said catalyst is also described.

EFFECT: higher catalyst efficiency due to increase in its specific surface area.
