SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises stages whereat sand flow is automatically controlled to limit sand distribution by conditions wherein sand application on rails efficiently increases adhesion between wheels and rails. Operation of each sand distribution device of multiple set thereof can be independently controlled to selectively initiate said devices.

EFFECT: increased adhesion of locomotive wheels with rails.
