FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to chemical engineering, and specifically to a method of producing aromatic compounds through nitration of an aromatic compound with nitric acid in a reactor column filled with packing, which is a reaction and a fractionation zone at the same time, in the middle part of which the initial aromatic compound and nitric acid are fed. Reaction water is tapped from the top part. The method is distinguished by that nitration is carried out at pressure of 0.4-2.0 atm, while tapping water in form of a mixture which contains water, the initial aromatic compound and nitric acid. The mixture is condensed. The organic phase which contains the aromatic compound is separated from the aqueous phase and returned to the reactor. Water is distilled from the aqueous phase which contains water and nitric acid. Concentrated nitric acid is returned to the reactor. An aromatic compound is distilled from the stillage residue of the reactor which contains the initial aromatic compound and a nitro compound and then returned to the reactor. The remaining nitro compound is purified using existing techniques.

EFFECT: design of a new method of producing aromatic nitro compounds which is distinguished by low output of by-products and improved isomeric composition of the products.
