FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: ironless betatron electromagnet has two coaxial flat spiral coils with a solenoid between them whose leads are connected to a power supply. The ends of the solenoid are connected to inner ends of the flat spiral coils. The electromagnet is divided into two parts which are symmetrical about a plane. Each part includes a main flat spiral coil and solenoid and an extra flat spiral coil and an extra solenoid with opposite main winding B of each part from the butt-end facing the plane of symmetry. The ends of the main and extra solenoids are connected to each other. On the other butt-end, the main solenoid is connected to the main flat spiral coil. The extra solenoid is connected to the extra flat spiral coil. The solenoids and flat spiral coils have N-recesses and n windings, where N and n are integers. The leads are coaxial.
EFFECT: reduced azimuthal non-uniformity of the magnetic field in the working area and easier use and repair of the electromagnet, and increased strength with retention of dimensions.
