FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves recording images of an object using two optical-location units, programmed processing of digital images from photomatrices for determining coordinates of images of an identical point on the object, calculation of matrices describing the position of optical axes of the optical-location units based on signals from angular sensors for internal and external frames of gimbal suspensions and calculation of coordinates of an identical point of the object in a bound coordinate system. The device which realises the method has two spaced out optical-location units, each mounted on the internal frame of its own gimbal suspension, which has an external and an internal frame on whose axes of which there are angular sensors for the frame of the suspension and is designed for providing the required orientation of the optical axis of the optical-location unit in order to widen the region in space in which coordinates of mobile objects can be measured. The device also has a digital computer which includes a matrix calculation module, a programmed image processing module and an object coordinate calculation module connected in a certain way.
EFFECT: wider region in space in which coordinates of mobile objects can be measured.
