FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: frequency measurement device includes: a pulse former, a control unit, a reference frequency generator, a unit for counting reference frequency pulses, a "Ready" signal conditioner, a counter for counting the number of code shifts, a buffer register, a shift register and read-only memory (ROM). The disclosed frequency measurement method is characterised by that a frequency value fch rounded upwards to the closes value fch=2Q·106 Hz is given. Numbers Ntk, obtained after measuring period Tx in nmin least or most significant bits of the counter, are transmitted to address inputs of the ROM. The value of the number NROM is determined with pre-recording into ROM for each value of Ntk in the range from to . If the conditions nmin<nmeas≤nmax, nmeas=nmin+m1 or nmin≤nmeas<nmax, nmeas=nmax-m2, are met, the number Ntk is shifted m1 or m2 times towards least or most significant bits. The number m1 or m2 of shifts is recorded and the frequency fx1 or fx2 of the analysed signals is determined.
EFFECT: increased reliability and accuracy of measuring frequency.
