FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of predicting resistance of articles made from nickel-chromium stainless steel in halogen-containing media involves epoxidation of a specimen or article in the working medium for 10 hours. The surface of the specimen is then scanned. Parametres of the largest pitting are determined. Determination of the pitting parametres involves obtaining its image, as well as measurement of the perimetre of the spot L and finding the equivalent diametre of the pitting Deq=L/π. The time for safe operation of the article is then calculated using the formula: τ=10.8 log(0.325 Deq/H), where: τ is time for safe operation of the article, hours, Deq is the equivalent diametre of the largest pitting, mcm, H is thickness of the wall of the article, mm.
EFFECT: more reliable and easier prediction.
