FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method involves emission of a radar signal towards a target, reception of the signal reflected by the target using a monopulse antenna with a drive, having sum and difference channels, generation of a differential signal as a difference between amplitude values of signals from the sum and difference channels, comparison of amplitude of the differential signal with a threshold value, deciding on presence of a target if the amplitude of the differential signal exceeds the threshold value, determination of the angular position of the target from the position of the antenna the moment the differential signal exceeds the threshold value. The device which realises the method has a monopulse antenna with a drive, first and second mixers, a heterodyne, first and second intermediate frequency amplifiers, a subtraction unit, a threshold unit, first and second amplitude detectors, an antenna angular position sensor and a switch, connected in a certain way.

EFFECT: broader functional capabilities owing to simultaneous detection of a target and measurement of its angular position.
