FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to catalysis. The invention describes an α-methylstyrene oligomerisation catalyst which contains phosphoric acid on a carbon support, characterised by that the support used is carbon material with total pore volume of 0.2-0.6 cm3/g with average mesopore size between 4 and 40 nm, specific surface area of 100-450 m2/g and strength of not less than 100 kg/cm2. Content of phosphates in the catalyst is between 10 and 15 wt % in terms of P2O5. Described also is a method of preparing an α-methylstyrene oligomerisation catalyst, involving impregnation of the support with phosphoric acid followed by thermal treatment, characterised by that impregnation is carried out in a vacuum, thermal treatment is carried out in three steps at temperature 20-250°C with time intervals between the steps and the support used is carbon material with specific surface area of 100-450 m2/g, average mesopore size of 4-40 nm, total pore volume of 0.2-0.6 cm3/g and strength of not less than 100-120 kg/cm2, to obtain a catalyst with P2O5 content between 10 and 15 wt %.
EFFECT: higher mechanical strength and higher activity of α-methylstyrene oligomerisation catalyst.
