FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of 2-ethylhexanol by hydrogenating 2-ethylhexenal in liquid phase on an industrial aluminium-nickel-titanium catalyst at temperature of 160-200°C, pressure of up to 30 MPa and bulk speed of feeding material of 0.3-0.5 h-1. The process is carried out in two reactors, in each of which 2-ethylhexanal is independently fed with the same bulk speed and a hydrogenation product comes out of each, and after separation from the hydrogenation product after the first reactor circulation hydrogen is fed into the second reactor while simultaneously replenishing it with fresh hydrogen in an amount which ensures the same pressure as hydrogen pressure at the input of the first reactor.
EFFECT: method lowers hydrogen consumption owing to reduction of its volume fed for circulation, and improves cost-performance ratio of the process.
