FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: signal elements are detected in such a presentation space which is invariant relative time shifts in which the useful signal has the most compact localisation compared to noise components, wherein the criterion for appearance of a signal is a certain functional exceeding a threshold level, where the said functional characterises the difference of a signal averaged with a slow time constant, playing the role of a background component, from a signal averaged with fast (or virtually zero in case of a sufficiently high signal to noise ratio) time constant, wherein adaptability of determining the background component at the moment the signal is detected is automatically switched off and switched on again at the end of the signal transmission.

EFFECT: high accuracy and reliability of results of processing signals with broader adaptability conditions.
