FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: if thickness of a multilayer resonance scintillation detector is 50±5 mcm, efficiency of detecting resonance gamma-quanta is 60%, the ratio of detected resonant gamma-quanta to non-resonance quanta (selectivity) reaches 5. Use of a plastic organic scintillator based on polyvinyl xylene with converter substance K2Mg57Fe(CN)6, distributed in layers inside the scintillator for resonant absorption of gamma-quanta 14.4 keV of a 57Co(Cr) source with emission of conversion electrons and Auger electrons, provides absorption line width of the resonance scintillation detector of 0.30±0.01 mm/s.
EFFECT: higher selectivity with efficient detection of resonance gamma-quanta, lower efficiency of detecting 122 and 136 keV background lines for a gamma-radiation source, reduced width of absorption lines of the resonance scintillation detector.
