SUBSTANCE: inventions are related to household dishwasher and method of its operation. Household dishwasher includes at least one closed water circuit made with the possibility of circulating the cleaning fluid in it according to the command of management software device. Cleaning liquid in circulation can be transported through the filter element for filtering contaminants. In the dishwasher an additional water circuit is provided, through which the cleaning liquid according to the command of the management software device can circulate when the filter element is loaded with contaminants, to ensure the cleaning of the filter element. The filter element is made with a variable mesh size or bushing clearances to provide first and second modes of operation. The filter element in the first mode of operation filters out contaminants existing in the water circuit, and in the second mode of operation the functionality to remove the contaminants held in the filter element is provided when passing of washing liquid, transported in an additional circuit water circulation. According to the method of operation the household dishwasher having a washing program and containing one or more phases of the program, the filter element made with a variable mesh size or bushing clearances to provide first and second modes of operation, during the washing program operate in the first mode of operation when it filters out impurities from the washing liquid in the water circuit. In accordance with a command of a software management device, or in detection of specific loading of the filter element of contamination an additional water circuit is activated, and the filter element is transferred to the second mode of operation for removal of existing contaminants therein or on it.

EFFECT: provision of filter self-cleaning without creating a system of water backflow and optimisation of the machine quality characteristic in respect of energy demand and efficiency of cleaning.
